Looking Into the Fire

They walk the lands of the world and ride with a strong eye
Up the mountains and down the hills, planting their presence along
The way to Heart's Content, the town where the man's lady
Sleeps on her side, day in and day out - still under the midnight sun.

They look at the camp fire, burning hot and strong,
To look at the images forming in their minds on the fire;
For the man there lights up a beautiful form with long fiery red hair,
Dancing with the flames, burning with the passion in her heart.

The man, he jumps back in fear, disturbed by the morbid thought of
His love and precious lady dying of burn and scars, wounds from her heart;
He broke it and left, yes, he did - took his reigns in his hand,
His musket at his side and rode away to let the days subside.

He sits back down, calm now, calmed by the vision of a kiss from his love,
A sweet look from her eyes and a hand carress his cheek - his eyes closed shut,
As his heart begins to swell and tears come from his eyes,
For he knows that it was his love's ghost standing over that fire.
